crips & bloods: made in america.

phil and i sat down and watched this documentary last friday. i mean, i know that racism is institutionalized in america and canada, but lord, i wasn't prepared to see what i saw and learn even more about the true history of the degredation of black culture on this continent.

do yourself a favour and educate yourself - watch this film, and understand how much further we have left to go. we need to understand our communities before we can know how to properly raise them up and fight the powers that be.

living here is giving me a harsh case of the crazies.

nikki beach at cannes film festival, MC for the grand prix weekend.. my liver needs mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

not that that makes any bloody sense, whatsoever..

hello daddy.

i don't know if the handful of dudes that read this blog are going to be turned off by my self-indulgence in posting even more girly shit, but meh.. i'm willing to take a gamble on it.

i bloody well love the runaways, and have spent many an hour lip-synching this song in the mirror and pretending to be cherie currie. the bitch is BAD. she be reppin' undies as outerwear lightyears ahead of lady gaga, et al. real talk.

obvs gonna see the movie.

peep this: machotaildrop!

holler! jakey = art director!!

cripes, this looks super rad. when yaya got that sneak peek photo of the manwolfs all ganged up and ready to blaze trails a couple of summers ago, my stoke was already high. also, please note that the full pipe is floating in the danube river - that's right. filmed in romania and hungary.

roll with the gods. highly recommended.

r.i.p. shane mcconkey.

it's been a sad past couple of weeks here in the valley and the lower mainland - local pro skier, shane mcconkey, passed away in late march after a base-jumping accident in the italian dolomites.

please visit www.shanemcconkey.org to send your best wishes to shane's family and friends.

up and coming: grey gardens.

from the documentary

from the new movie

a few years ago, jasmine got me hooked on the documentary, and now there's an hbo movie coming out next month. Supposedly, it delves deeper into little edie's past and gives the viewer an idea as to how they got to where they were when the original documentary was made.

i am crossing my fingers that this is going to be a worth it!

it girl: faye dunaway.

i've king of fallen off doing these 'it girl' posts, but i was thinking about bonnie and clyde last night while watching the classic movie channel, and faye baby came to mind.

faye played wilhelmina cooper in 'gia' - which, according to my sister, is probably the best movie angelina jolie's ever made, evelyn cross mulwray in 'chinatown', and even had a role in the johnny depp movie, 'don juan de marco' (phil has a copy of this at home that even i make fun of him for - and i love johnny).

but it was her joan crawford in the cult classic 'mommie dearest' that pretty much cemented her legend status, in my mind. NO WIRE HANGERS!

r.i.p. john updike.

this iconic and pulitzer prize-winning poet, art and literary critic, short story writer and novelist passed away today of lung cancer. he was groundbreaking in his chronicling of the sexualized young american, and in his consistent inventiveness. another legend leaves us.

a lengend passes: bettie page.

50's pin-up legend, s & m persona and bettie page just passed away last night from pneumonia; never regaining consciousness after suffering a heart attack earlier this month.

unknowingly, a force in the sexual revolution, and a cult heroine, she spent most of her life out of the limelight, turned to religion, then later battled with acute schizophrenia.

she was 85.
