my brethren are making it rain! or, snow.. kwame nkrumah-acheampong is ghana's first and only athlete to qualify for any winter olympics. ever.
this past march he qualified for the 2010 games by breaking the magical 140-point barrier set by the FIS, and he was raised in ghana without seeing a snowflake until he was 27. not that he expects to win a medal, his goal is simply to, "is to ski very well and prove to people that I deserve to be on the hill, with the other top world class athletes". the radness.
it's been a sad past couple of weeks here in the valley and the lower mainland - local pro skier, shane mcconkey, passed away in late march after a base-jumping accident in the italian dolomites.
please visit www.shanemcconkey.org to send your best wishes to shane's family and friends.
for a secon there it looked like this little bastard was about to sentence us to 6 more weeks of wintry weather, but he didn't end up seeing us shadow, so we just may have an early spring on our hands, folks! and on an even brighter side, i'm sure that 'groundhog day' will be playing on at least one cable outlet this evening.
okay, so i know i've taken some time off (sorry j!), but it's nothing like my boys down at gnarcore headquarters. those assholes left us hanging after the power normal for like, a freaking YEAR. eff, FINALLY guys. rouleau and the boys that make up my favourite band of misfits got their shit together and are rolling out their very latest.
so, i know i've been posting a lot of shred stuff lately - and there's not even snow yet. but the weather's turning and i guess my stoke is getting up there.
i was lucky enough to catch the vancouver premiere of the travis rice movie about a week and a half ago at the vogue theatre, and holy shit, it was the best snowboard movie i have ever seen in my life. yea yea, i know you've probably heard people say that before - but this was no lameo shred vid. redbull laid down a 3 million dollar budget on this baby.
oh, and the filming crew that created the 'planet earth' dvds was the same one on this project. don't even trip.
