i was browsing through the kingdom of style last week and stumbled upon some of the coolest necklaces i'd seen in awhile. i wanted to post about them then and there, but was having trouble finding any images. so i emailed the designer shilpa chavan with a request, crossing my fingers, and lo and behold she replied the next day!

she has got some of the freshest accessories i've seen in ages - shimmering threaded brocade sari pieces in plexiglas (for reals), and headwear ranging from astronaut-like helmets to purely romantic lace confections.

the second i saw this zone zero article i had to post about it. over the course of the better part of the last century, gentlemen of all ages in the congo have developed a specific, and most definitely dandied, style of dress refered to as 'la sape'; it stands for: la societé des ambianceurs et des personnes elegantes. it refers to someone dressed with elegance - and the subculture has their own slang: 'yambala' means baggy shirt, 'bumbatio' means pants and 'nkaka' means suit.

the other day, yaya sent me a link to the most wonderful site. she is without a doubt my most sustainably-living, socially-conscious and responsible amiga, and for that i thank her. because i am now in the know when it comes to getting kitted in some seriously wearable organic clothes (because let's face it - a lot of them aren't my speed). fabrics used in their fa08 line include: vegetable-tanned leather, organic cashmeres, wool, cotton and velvet. even the recycled cotton pieces look dope.

i was lucky enough to catch the vancouver premiere of the travis rice movie about a week and a half ago at the vogue theatre, and holy shit, it was the best snowboard movie i have ever seen in my life. yea yea, i know you've probably heard people say that before - but this was no lameo shred vid. redbull laid down a 3 million dollar budget on this baby.

oh, and the filming crew that created the 'planet earth' dvds was the same one on this project. don't even trip.

and now it looks like it's going to get even more problematic. he's done a few one-offs here and there, but now marc jacobs has decided to fully immerse himself in swimwear for his 'more affordable' marc by marc jacobs line, for spring 2009. earlier this week, jacobs announced a licensing agreement with swimwear anywhere inc., which will design and manufacture swim separates and beachwear for the marc by marc jacobs collection.
